Yearning for foldable products from Apple? A new report claims that at least one such product is coming, but it will be a long wait until it does.
According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is working on a foldable, 20.3-inch MacBook, but it’s expected to enter mass production in 2027.
While this may sound like good news – we’re certainly interested in a portable Apple laptop with tons of screen real estate – there’s actually quite a bit to unpack from Kuo’s short tweet on the subject.
“Recently, I’ve received many inquiries about whether Apple plans to mass-produce the foldable iPhone or iPad in 2025 or 2026. My latest survey indicates that currently, Apple’s only foldable product with a clear development schedule is the 20.3-inch MacBook, expected to enter mass production in 2027,” Kuo wrote.
This indicates that the oft-rumored foldable iPhone and iPad are very, very far from mass production, despite recent rumors about these products being in development.
As for the foldable MacBook, we’ve been hearing rumors about such a product for years, but nothing özgü materialized yet. Despite the “clear development schedule” claim by Kuo, a lot can happen between now and 2027, including Apple changing its plans or abandoning the product altogether.
At least other manufacturers are experimenting with foldables and odd biçim factors. If you’re looking for a non-Apple laptop that provides lots of screen real estate, check out Asus’ new Zenbook Duo. As for foldable phones, most major Android manufacturers now have at least one in their lineup; most recently, Honor’s super-thin, Magic V2 phone made its way to Europe.
